After much patience and anticipation, the location of my 2010 Arts Alive banner has been revealed:
It will be up until the end of May at which point the highest bidder will take this artistic, one of a kind, banner home with them. Keep in mind, out of 101 banners, my banner is the only piece done photographically.
Information on the Arts Alive Banners is here, and be sure to check out the Auction Guide to start bidding. Bidding officially began at the unveiling of the banners on February 20th, so get to it!

shadow box love
In case you missed my show with Skye Walker in December, these little guys made their debut, and were a huge hit.
These two pieces are now happily hanging on the walls at the the home of my dear friends Steve & Cher Pendarvis

Art Project
I'm happy to say I will be a part of the 2010 Arts Alive Project. This is something a little different than what I usually do with my work, but thought again, this would be a great way to get my work in front of more new eyes. I won't know the actual location of my banner for a few days, but thought I'd share my crafty process.
The banners which are up for Auction will be hung from the lamp posts around town, exposed to the elements [which, in San Diego, only means lots of heat, sun and maybe a sprinkle] until the end of May. I knew going into this that most artists paint directly onto the supplied vinyl banners. As a photographer my options of displaying my art were limited. I figured another layer of durable vinyl would be my best option.
The dimensions of the banner are also tough. 18" x 50" is not a format of any film I shoot so I decided to take a sliver of one of my favorite cross-processed, 35mm film images I shot in Cardiff, and had it printed on vinyl

I knew very early in the process I wanted to incorporate stitching, an element which turned out to be both decorative and functional

A simple black zig-zag stitch would do the trick

Here is a shot of my completed piece. My image printed on vinyl, sewn to the banner and then signed. The most exciting part of this is that out of 101 local artists with participating banners, I am the only photographer!

The banners will be unveiled this Saturday and the bidding will begin in the Silent Auction.

We were down at the OB jetty last weekend and while the guys were surfing the pumping barrels, I was off shooting other stuff. Oh well.
